BEIJING, Dec. 22 -- Barely a week into 2005, Hollywood's golden couple, Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston, announced the end of their marriage. Hours before Thanksgiving, TV's "Newlyweds," Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson, made the same declaration. "It truly was an unusual year for celebrity breakups," says Janice Min, editor of Us Weekly. "Breakups can be contagious, and it seems like they definitely were throughout 2005."

    Brad Pitt, 43, and Jennifer Aniston, 36

    After five years of marriage, the couple announced their split Jan. 8. Just months later, photographs of Pitt with his ¡°Mr. & Mrs. Smith¡± co-star Angelina Jolie dominated celebrity news, and Aniston¡¯s first interview on the topic in September became the best-selling issue of Vanity Fair. The divorce was final Oct. 5.
