RAMALLAH, Dec. 19 (Xinhuanet) -- A senior Fatah member said on Monday that Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has decided to approve Fatah's main list and the Future list headed by Jailed leader Marwan Barghouti to run in the legislative elections due on Jan. 25, 2006.

Kadoura Faris, who is a Future list candidate, told Palestinian radio Voice of Palestine that Fatah's central committee adopted the Future list, which means that Fatah races in the elections in two lists.

Faris said the decision was made after a meeting held between senior Fatah members and Abbas Sunday night in Ramallah.

"Abbas sees that the two lists represent blocs inside Fatah where they represent main and senior Fatah members, "said Faris.

He added that by maintaining the separate lists, Fatah supporters will vote for the two lists and then after the vote the two lists will merge their results.

"There will be no competition between the two Fatah lists. Fatah has political opponents which will compete with them through democratic elections battle," he added.

A young generation of Fatah led by Barghouti formed the Future list in protest against the official Fatah list, which they accused of consisting of too many Fatah's old guard. Enditem
