BAGHDAD, Dec. 19 (Xinhuanet) -- Unknown gunmen opened fire at the convoy of the Baghdad deputy governor in southern Baghdad Monday morning, wounding him and killing three of his bodyguards, an Interior Ministry source told Xinhua.

"Seven armed men in a minibus attacked the convoy of Ziyad Tariq al-Zubai, Baghdad deputy governor, in al-Melhaniyah, shortly after 8:00 a.m. (0500 GMT) as he was heading to his work," the source said.

Two civilians and another Zubai's bodyguard were wounded in the attack, he added.

Earlier, another police source said a booby-trapped car detonated in Iskan district in western Baghdad targeting a convoy of the head of Doura police station, who was wounded along with six of his bodyguards.

Insurgents frequently attack Iraqi government employees and security forces, accusing them of collaboration with the US occupation forces. Enditem
