DAR ES SALAAM, Dec. 18 (Xinhuanet) -- Tanzania's voters have given ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi party (CCM) enormous victory in both the presidential and parliamentary elections, according to results announced Sunday by the National Electoral Commission.

In the 232 constituencies where parliamentary elections were held, the CCM garnered 213 elected seats with oppositions getting only 19.

CCM's candidate Jakaya Kikwete, securing 87.4 percent of the vote, was also elected as president of Tanzania.

This year's general elections, held on Wednesday after being postponed from Oct. 30, were the third multiparty polls since 1995 after Tanzania had shifted to multiparty politics in 1992. Enditem
