BEIJING, Dec. 18 (Xinhuanet)-- Actress and singer Jessica Simpson filed for divorce on Friday from her husband, former pop star Nick Lachey, in Los Angeles Superior Court.

Simpson cited irreconcilable differences in a divorce petition posted on the Web site TMZ.com.

The couple jointly announced their separation on Nov. 23 through their publicists.

Since the breakup was announced, Lachey has committed to star in a new sitcom for the WB, while Simpson has been working on her upcoming album, And the Band Plays On.

Simpson, 25, who starred in the film adaptation of the television series "The Dukes of Hazzard," met Lachey, 32, at a Christmas parade in 1998.

Lachey and Simpson wed in October 2002 and became household names in America when they starred in MTV reality show Newlyweds. They have no children.
