BELGRADE, Dec. 17 (Xinhuanet) -- The Bosnian Serb republic government would
donate a large cache of surplus weapons to Afghanistan, said reports reaching
here Saturday from Banja Luka where the entity government is based.
The Serb republic, one of the two entities constituting Bosnia-Herzegovina,
said in a statement that it would donate 4,500 machine-guns, 400 howitzers and
one million 7.62-caliber bullets.
The statement said that those light weapons and ammunition were left as
surplus after defense reforms in Bosnia-Herzegovina reduced weapons and troops.
It said that the donation has been approved by Paddy Ashdown, the
international community's high representatives in Bosnia-Herzegovina, who has
wide-ranging power in the Western Balkan country. Enditem
