PNA rejects Israeli plan to resolve conflict: Erekat

RAMALLAH, Dec. 17 (Xinhuanet) -- Chief Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat said on Saturday that the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) has rejected a plan proposed by Israel to resolve Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon intends to implement a plan to resolve the conflict after winning the coming Israeli elections due on March 28, Israeli media reported earlier this month.

The plan states postponing discussing Jerusalem issue for the next five years, subjugating Islamic endowments to Turkish and Jordanian control and dismantling the powers of the Palestinian Liberation Organization, according to the report.

Erekat told Palestinian radio Voice of Palestine that the PNA had announced its position concerning the Israeli plan.

"Of course we reject it," said Erekat, adding that "the only solution we accept is ending the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories occupied in 1967."

He said that the plan indicates Israeli attempts to topple issues of Jerusalem, Palestinian refugees' rights, annexing settlements, water and defining borders unilaterally due to Israeli dictations as well as annexing Jordan valley area.

"These attempts will never create a legitimate right and will never set up a commitment," Erekat said.

The chief negotiator said Israel must know that making peace and living in peace with the Palestinian people will only be achieved by creating a Palestinian state on the borders of 1967 with Jerusalem as its capital.

"As well as resolving the refugees issue according to Resolution 194 and according to the Arab peace initiatives," Erekat stressed.  Enditem
