Tropical depression Quedan threatens Philippine island

    MANILA, Dec. 17 (Xinhuanet) -- Tropical depression Quedan has tracked west southwestward over the past six hours and is now over Northern Palawan, southwest Philippines, state weather bureau PAGASA said on Saturday.

    As of 10:00 a.m. local time (0200 GMT) Saturday, Quedan's center was noted at the western coast of Antique or 80 kilometers northeast of Puerto Princesa City with maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers an hour and gustiness of up to 60 kilometers an hour.

    The tropical depression was moving west northwest at 15 kilometers an hour.

    PAGASA said Quedan is expected to be at 300 kilometers northwest of Puerto Princesa or 360 kilometers west southwest of Coron, Palawan, Sunday morning and 660 kilometers northwest of Puerto Princesa City, Palawan or 670 kilometers west northwest of Coron, Palawan by Monday morning.

    PAGASA hoisted Public Storm Signal No. 1 in Mindoro provinces and Lubang Island in Luzon and in Antique, Aklan, Pagasa Island, Palawan, Calamian Group and Cuyo Island in the Visayas, central Philippines. Enditem
