TOKYO, Dec. 17 (Xinhuanet) -- An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.2 on the
Richter scale jolted northeastern Japan on Saturday morning, Japan's
Meteorological Agency said, no casualties or damage has been reported.
The quake occurred at 3:32 a.m. (1832 GMT Friday). Its epicenter was around
50 kms deep in the Pacific off the coast of Miyagi Prefecture, the agency said.
No tsunami warning was issued.
Two people were injured in the quake, though not fatally.
Japan accounts for about 20 percent of the world's earthquakes of magnitude 6 or greater. Enditem |
