Iraqi police seize fake ballot papers
www.chinaview.cn 2005-12-14 16:20:40

BAGHDAD, Dec. 14 (Xinhuanet) -- The Iraqi police seized a truck of fake ballot papers similar to those to be used in the Iraqi general elections near the Iranian border, an Interior Ministry source told Xinhua on Wednesday.

"Iraqi police intercepted a truck loaded with forged ballot papers late Tuesday night near the town of Badrah near the Iranian border," the source said on condition of anonymity. The Iraqi police also seized the driver of the truck who is an Iranian national, the source said.

He said the Iraqi security forces are now looking for other similar three trucks entering Iraq from Iran.

The US military confirmed the incident, saying they are working with the Iraqi security forces in searching for the other three trucks.

The Iraqi borders and airports will be closed from midnight (2100 GMT) Wednesday to 6:00 p.m. (1500 GMT) Friday as part of rigorous security measures during the elections.

Iraqis are to head to ballot boxes on Thursday for general elections to pick the first full-term parliament since the fall of Saddam Hussein. Enditem
