Urgent: UN inquiry says Syria failed to fully cooperate with investigation

    UNITED NATIONS, Dec. 12 (Xinhuanet) -- The latest UN report on theinvestigation of the assassination of Lebanese former Prime Minister Hariri said Monday that Syria failed to fully cooperate with the UN commission.

    The report from German prosecutor Detlev Mehlis' team, which was presented to Secretary-General Kofi Annan Sunday and handed over to the Security Council Monday, said Syria tried to obstruct the probe by demanding that the probe revise its report after a crucial witness recanted his testimony.

    This was, at the least, an attempt to hinder the investigation internally and procedurally, said the report. Enditem
