KABUL, Dec. 12 (Xinhuanet) -- Troops of NATO-led International Security
Assistance Force (ISAF) have found a huge arms and ammunition cache on the
outskirts of the Afghan capital, a spokesman of the multinational force said
Monday.
"Engineers from the French Battle group of ISAF carried out an operation to recover
a cache of weapons and ammunition 35 km north of Kabul on December 10,"
Andrew Elmes told reporters at a press conference in ISAF Headquarters.
The cache, he added, contained 42 rockets of various size, 16 mortar shell
of 82 mm, 32 hand grenades, nine boxes of 12.7 mm ammunition, three AK 47 rifles
and two demolition kits.
All the arms and amunition of the cache will be destroyed by ISAF, the
spokesman added.
Troops of the multinational force have also intensified their joint patrol
with Afghan law enforcing agencies, the spokesman asserted.
"Last week ISAF conducted a total of 632 patrols throughout Kabul, northern
and western region area of operations, of which 132 were joint with Afghan
police and army, and flew 136 air operations in support of the ISAF security
assistance mission," Andrew Elmes confirmed.
Some 10,000-strong ISAF troops have been stationed with the majority of them in Kabul to help stabilize security in the post-war Afghanistan. Enditem |
