BAGHDAD, Dec. 12 (Xinhuanet) -- A US soldier was killed on Sunday in a suicide car bomb attack near Iraq's western city of Ramadi, the US military said on Monday.

"A soldier, assigned to the 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward), was killed in action by a suicide vehicle borne improvised explosive device (SVBIED) attack while conducting combat operations against the enemy near Ramadi, Dec. 11," the military said in a statement.

The name of the killed soldier was being withheld pending notification of next of kin, the statement said.

The death has brought to more than 2,140 the number of US military personnel who have died in Iraq since the US-led invasion in March 2003, according to media tally. Enditem
