BEIJING, Dec. 12 -- Over 3 million counterfeit CD and DVD products were destroyed Sunday in South China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, marking great progress in China's latest campaign on the protection of Intellectual Property Rights.

    Liu Binjie, deputy head of the national working team on cracking down pornographic and illegal publications, says the country has been making profound steps to combat against counterfeit products.

    "Once again, this movement fully represents the stance of the Chinese government to crack down on the infringement of intellectual property rights in China."

    The official says among the counterfeit publications, audio and visual products took first place, followed by nearly 25 million books and about 14 million electronic publications and software.

    China has seized over 50 million counterfeit CD and DVD products since the beginning of the campaign this July.

    From 1994 to 2004, the Chinese government has confiscated more than 800 million counterfeit audio and visual products and 200 DVD production lines, and about 5 million U.S. dollars have been awarded to those who reported the cases. Enditem
