www.chinaview.cn 2005-12-10 23:21:55

STOCKHOLM, Dec. 10 (Xinhuanet) -- UN nuclear watchdog agency chief Mohamed ElBaradei on Saturday accepted the 2005 Nobel Peace Prize at the Oslo city hall, according to reports reaching here.

ElBaradei shared the award with his International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) for their work in nuclear nonproliferation.

The 63-year-old Egyptian warned that humanity faces a choice between nuclear weapons and survival.

People should make efforts to prevent the spread of nuclear weapons to avoid self-destruction, said ElBaradi.

ElBaradi and the IAEA's Board of Governors Chairman Yukiya Amano, representing the agency, accepted Nobel gold medals and diplomas at a gala ceremony before about 1,000 guests, including Norway's King Herald V and Queen Sonja. Enditem
