OIC summit ends with Mecca Declaration

    RIYADH, Dec. 8 (Xinhuanet) -- Islamic leaders wrapped up their 3rd extraordinary summit meetings of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) In Saudi Arabia's holy city Mecca on Thursday afternoon with a approved a final statement.

    According to media reports reaching here from Mecca, the final statement involved a plan of action in the political, socio-economic and intellectual spheres.

    It underlined the Palestinian cause as the key issue of the Islamic nation and called for the need to end Israeli occupation of Palestinian and other Arab territories occupied in the 1967 war.

    Strenuous efforts should be exerted to restore al-Quds city (Jerusalem) to preserve its Islamic and historical features to confront Israeli attempts to Judaise the holy city, said the statement.

    It call on the world community to seriously work for forcing Israel to halt settlement activities.

    Meanwhile, it also underlined the importance of dialogue among civilizations on the basis of mutual respect and understanding as well as equality among peoples to let tolerance, cooperation, peace and confidence prevail in the Islamic world.

    The statement called for fighting extremism disguised under the cloak of Islam, boosting dialogue among Islamic doctrines and cementing principles of moderation and tolerance.

    The extraordinary OIC summit kicked off in Mecca on Wednesday to address a wide range of issues Islamic countries face, gathering leaders from some 57 member states of the OIC.

    The two-day meeting highlighted the political and economic challenges that Islamic countries are facing.

    A working program dubbed "Mecca Declaration" also approved at the end of the high-profile summit concerning a roadmap for joint Islamic action over the next 10 years. Enditem
