LONDON, Dec. 7 (Xinhuanet) -- Former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher was sent to a hospital in London on Wednesday afternoon after "feeling faint," a Conservative Party spokeswoman said.

According to a BBC report, 80-year-old Thatcher felt unwell when having her hair dressed, and was immediately taken to the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital by her bodyguards.

The hospital confirmed the news, saying Thatcher was admitted to the accident and emergency department at about 5:00 p.m. (1700 GMT) and had received some tests.

"She will be assessed by doctors in the morning. Her condition is stable and comfortable and she is now resting," hospital spokesman Mark Purcell said.

The Conservative Party spokesperson said Thatcher is expected to be released the next morning after being observed during the night as a precaution.

Thatcher, the only female prime minister in British history, has gone through a number of agonies in recent years, with her husband Denis Thatcher passing away in 2003 and her son Mark being arrested and convicted in South Africa for taking part in a political conspiracy in Equatorial Guinea.

She attended the funeral of her rival and predecessor Sir Edward Heath in July. Enditem
