Poland denies holing al Qaeda prisoners
www.chinaview.cn 2005-12-08 02:51:59

WARSAW, Dec. 8 (Xinhuanet) -- Polish President Alexander Kwasniewski said on Wednesday that no al Qaeda prisoners are held in Poland.

"There are no such prisons and such prisoners on Polish territory," Kwasniewski told Radio Z. Wednesday.

"There is a cooperation concerning intelligence. We obviously don't know the details of such cooperation even on top levels of administration, although I am sure everything goes according to the law."

He believed American media reports that the CIA kept up to 10 most important al Qaeda captives even few weeks ago were untrue.

Asked if Attorney's Office should start investigation in the case, Kwasniewski said he was not sure such proceedings would be necessary.

"I think organizations checking that information, e.g. European Commission, will receive from Polish authorities proper documents concerning air traffic and aircraft landings."

After news about suspected secret CIA prisons in Eastern Europe appeared in November, the European Council asked the governments of EU member countries for information on such centers on their territories and required explanations from Washington. Enditem
