Hamas may defeat Fatah in coming election

    GAZA, Dec. 7 (Xinhuanet) -- A Palestinian opinion poll showed on Wednesday that if the legislative election are held this week, the radical Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) will beat ruling Fatah movement led by President Mahmoud Abbas.

    The poll conducted by al- Mustaqbal Surveys and Studies Center based in the Gaza Strip said that if the elections are held now,Hamas would earn 45.8 percent of the votes, while Fatah movement may get 36.1 percent only.

    The poll also noted that there was an obvious desire of the Palestinian population in the Gaza Strip to participate in the election.

    Some 84.6 percent of those participated in the poll had expressed their readiness to vote and participate in the elections,while 81.7 percent expressed dissatisfaction concerning the performance of the Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC), it added. The poll was conducted in the Gaza Strip during the period between Nov. 29 and Dec. 4, and a sample of 1309 people participated, 423 of them are females.

    It said that majority of those were included in the poll expressed their wish that all Palestinian national and Islamic factions would participate in the legislative election due on Jan.25. Enditem
