JERUSALEM, Dec. 7 (Xinhuanet) -- The anti-terror command at the
Israeli Prime Minister's Office on Tuesday called on all Israelis to leave
Egypt's Sinai Peninsula immediately due to warnings that terrorists plan to
kidnap vacationers.
"In recent days the threat of Israelis being
kidnapped in Sinai has worsened," the office said in a statement.
The
anti-terror unit issued a similar warning in October, recommending that Israelis
refrain from crossing into Sinai and calling on Israelis already there to return
to Israel immediately.
It announced that the threat level for Israelis
in Egypt, including Sinai, was at its highest in September.
There have
been three terror attacks in the Egyptian peninsula since October
2004.
The first one targeting the Hilton Taba and two resorts in
October last year killed 34 people, 12 of them Israelis. The second hit three
locations in the Egyptian Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh in July, killing 88
people and wounding hundreds of others, while the third targeted Multinational
Force and Observers in northern Sinai in August.
The latest travel
warning was issued one day after a deadly suicide bombing attack in the northern
Israeli city of Netanya killed five Israelis and wounded 40 others.
