MANILA, Dec. 6 (Xinhuanet) -- The US Embassy here along the Roxas Boulevard closed on Tuesday, shutting off its public services after receiving a bomb threat Monday night.
Due to "plausible threat information", public services at the US Embassy in Manila will be temporarily closed to the public beginning on Dec. 6, a statement on the US Embassy website said.
"These public operations include visa and consular services, and services of the Social Security Administration and Veterans Affairs Regional Office," the statement said.
It said the US Embassy will resume all public operations, including visa operations, "when deemed appropriate."
However, the statement said American citizens requiring emergency assistance may still contact the Embassy.
It reiterated a US State Department travel warning issued in March urging American citizens to be vigilant and aware of potential terrorist attacks against Americans, US or other Western interests in the Philippines.
Local radio DZMM reported that members of the Special Action Force of the Philippine National Police were dispatched along the Roxas Boulevard Tuesday morning.
Operatives of the Manila Police District Explosives and Ordnance Division have also been deployed inside the Embassy, the report said. Enditem |
