MOSCOW, Dec. 5 (Xinhuanet) -- The United Russia party is fixed to win a Moscow city council election, according to preliminary results on Monday.
With votes from 95 percent of polling stations counted, the United Russia got 47.4 percent of Sunday's ballot, Itar-Tass news agency quoted election officials as reporting.
The Community Party had 16.7 percent while the Yabloko party got 11 percent, which is the last of the three parties passing the 10 percent threshold to qualify for seats.
Vyacheslav Volodin, leader of the United Russia, said his party would "get things done" and held the expectation that its councillors would "justify the trust that voters have shown in them."
The Moscow city council, with its power expanded recently after reforms, now can say yes or no to the president's choice of the city's mayor. Enditem |
