Photo) | MOSCOW, Dec. 5 (Xinhuanet) -- The death
toll has risen to 14 in the swimming pool roof collapse in a town in the Urals
region of Russia, an official said Monday.
Ten of the victims were children aged between nine
and 12 and four others were women, the Itar-Tass news agency quoted local
emergency ministry official Anatoly Shinakov as saying.
The accident occurred at 2:30 p.m. local time (1130
GMT) Sunday. About 30 people were in the swimming pool at that time.
Earlier reports said eight bodies had been recovered
and the number of victims might increase as the effort to clear the
debriscontinued.
The swimming pool belonging to the Chusovoi
metallurgical plant,near the city of Perm in the Ural mountains, was built in
the early 1990s. About 70 percent of the swimming pool (100 square meters) is
now damaged, according to the Itar-Tass.
The Perm regional prosecutor's office has opened an
investigation into the accident. Enditem
