CHANGCHUN, Dec. 5 (Xinhuanet) -- At least 6,000 primary school children were urged to stay at home for two weeks as of Dec. 1, after a parotitis outbreak sickened at least 35 kids at six schools in Shuangliao, a city in northeast China's Jilin Province.

ĦĦĦĦThe city's health department reported 432 suspected parotitis cases on Dec. 2 from seven schools in the city, with 35 cases having finally been confirmed. Health experts said some children may actually be suffering from flu or quinsy.

Jilin provincial health department sent a team of disease prevention and control specialists on the site survey Saturday.

The team confirmed altogether 39 parotitis cases in Shuangliao city between Nov. 1 and Dec. 3, 35 of whom were students. But the experts have ruled out the possibility of a mass outbreak of the epidemic that tends to attack children in winter and spring. Enditem
