NEW DELHI, Dec. 2 (Xinhuanet) -- At least six people have been killed and more than 150 houses set on fire in the past week during tribal clashes in northeast India's Assam, Indo-Asian News Service reported Friday.
The local police detained nine militants, seven Dimasas and two Karbis, two rival tribes in Karbi Anglong district of Assam, Thursday.
The local government clamped night curfew in many parts of the district for fear of more attacks in the coming few days.
"Additional police and paramilitary troopers were deployed in strength in vulnerable areas to prevent further clashes," said Karbi Anglong district magistrate G.D. Tripathi.
In October, month-long violent crashes between the two tribes claimed 90 lives and made 45,000 people homeless. Many of them fled their villages and have been taking shelter in relief camps put up by the government till now. Enditem |
