France pledges to deliver justice to Algerian bomber
www.chinaview.cn 2005-12-02 05:23:58

PARIS, Dec. 1 (Xinhuanet) -- French Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin said Thursday on France 3 television that justice would be done to the Algerian man responsible of a Paris metro bombing attack 10 years ago.

Rachid Ramda, 35, was extradited earlier in the day from Britain to France to face charge after being held in high-security British jails since he was arrested on a French warrant shortly after the attacks at the downtown St Michel underground station in1995, when 10 people were killed and nearly 250 injured.

Algeria's Armed Islamic Group (GIA) claimed responsibility for the attacks, in which a bomb was packed with nails and bolts.

Ramda was transferred to the law courts immediately after arriving at French Bourget airport in north Paris, according to the French Justice Ministry.

"Justice will finally be done. I think about the loved ones, the families of the victims, about all those who have suffered during these years," said Villepin.

The case has been a major sticking point in relations between Britain and France, which accused London of acting as a haven for Islamic hardliners, especially from North Africa. Enditem
