PARIS, Dec. 1 (Xinhuanet) -- The 138th General Assembly of the Bureau of International Exhibitions (BIE) held here on Thursday passed unanimously the Registration Report of the Shanghai World Expo 2010 presented by China.

The announcement made by BIE chief Wu Jianmin, who is also the former Chinese ambassador in France, was applauded by the whole audience.

Shanghai Vice Mayor Zhou Yupeng thanked all the member states of the BIE for their support for World Expo 2010 Shanghai and gave a brief speech on the preparations for the event to delegates at the assembly.

Zhou said China promised to give an excellent and efficient service to all foreign participants of Shanghai Expo 2010. He added that China was striving to provide a safe and comfortable environment for the visitors, who will be able to attend various exhibitions by participating countries on science and technology, economics, culture and social development.

As stated in the International Exposition Convention, after a country wins the hosting right of a registered exposition, it must submit its Registration Report to the BIE five years before the Expo. Only after the Report is passed does the country have the legal right to host the exposition and is qualified to extend exhibition invitations to the international community. Enditem
