Coalition forces asked to go ahead with mission in Iraq

TIRANA, Dec. 1 (Xinhuanet) -- Top US commander in Iraq General George Casey on Wednesday evening urged the coalition forces in Iraq and their governments to contribute more to the peace process in the war-torn country.

During the meeting that was held here to discuss security in Iraq, Casey said new contributions by the coalition forces would have substantial significance to protecting and expanding the achievements gained in Iraq, according to a press communique after the meeting.

Casey said the situation in Iraq was extraordinary and irreversible after the general elections in January and the referendum on Iraq's draft constitution in October, the communique said. He said the coalition forces and their governments were yet to finish the tasks in Iraq.

The communique also said the participants failed to respond to some special requirements made by the meeting, though they would refer them to their governments.

Representatives from 34 countries with troops in the coalition forces led by the United States took part in the two-day meeting, which was sponsored by the Central Command of the United States and held under tight security. Enditem
