Gong Li plays Hatsumomo in "Memoirs of a Geisha"

Beijing, Dec. 1 -- As Zhang Ziyi flies all over the world to promote her star turn in Memoirs of a Geisha, we have always had a soft spot for Gong Li.

Gong Li is currently filming Miami Vice, and later in the Silence of the Lambs prequel, Young Hannibal: Behind the Mask.

It seems that it is never too early to put forth our own nominee, so we are billing Gong Li as our candidate for Best Supporting Actress at the upcoming Academy Awards, for her role as Hatsumomo, the nasty geisha who plays Sayuri's (Zhang Ziyi) nemesis.

If you've seen Shanghai Triad then you know what kind of mean spirited and spiteful woman she can portray. If you haven't, go and have it now.
