BEIJING, Nov. 29-- A 15-year-old Canadian girl with a
peanut allergy died Wednesday after kissing her boyfriend who had eaten a
peanut butter.
Christina Desforges, who lived about 250km north of Quebec City, received a shot of adrenaline after going into
anaphylactic shock. She died four days later from acute respiratory
failure.
The official cause of death was not released.
About 100 people in the United States die of food
allergies every year, most from exposure to nuts.
Peanut allergies are widespread but seldom fatal. The
symptoms can include hives, plunging blood pressure and swelling of the face and
throat, which can inhibit breathing.
