KUALA LUMPUR, Nov. 28 (Xinhuanet) -- Malaysian Prime
Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi on Monday ordered the establishment of an
independent panel to investigate the alleged abuse of an ethnic Chinese woman in
police custody.
"I have been briefed on the case and I have decided that an independent inquiry will be carried out," Badawi was quoted as saying by the official Bernama news agency.

He said he would
speak to the relevant people to find out if they wanted to join the panel.
The scandal surfaced last week when a video clip
showing a naked woman, who appears to be ethnic Chinese from the back, doing
squats while watched by a policewoman in a cell, went public.
The video, first sent anonymously to a Malaysian
parliament member and a local Chinese-language newspaper, was also displayed on
a Malaysian news website.
Deputy Prime Minister Najib Razak said the video
footage was the first documented evidence of police abusing detainees and vowed
stern action against the culprits. Enditem |
