Gunmen kill Sunni political leader near Fallujah
www.chinaview.cn 2005-11-28 22:43:59

FALLUJAH, Iraq, Nov. 28 (Xinhuanet) -- Unknown gunmen shot dead a Sunni Arab leader of the Iraqi Islamic Party near Fallujah on Monday, witnesses said.

"Ayad al-Izzi was shot dead in drive-by shooting by unidentified armed men in Innaz area east of Fallujah," Abdul Rahman, a local journalist, told Xinhua by telephone. Two persons accompanying Izzi were also killed in the attack, he added.

Insurgents, mostly Sunni Arabs, frequently attacked Iraqi Islamic Party members since the party dropped opposition to the draft constitution two days before the Oct. 15 referendum. The approved charter includes amendment which asked the new parliament to be elected on Dec. 15 to review the constitution, especially the controversial provision of federalism and the distribution of oil wealth.
