PYONGYANG, Nov. 28 (Xinhuanet) -- The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) on Monday blamed the United States for breaking the 1994 DPRK-US agreement, and demanded political and economic compensation for stopping the construction of light water reactors (LWRS).
The move came after the United States and the Korean Peninsula Energy Development Organization (KEDO) made a final decision on Nov. 22 - after a two-year wait - to completely stop the construction of LWRs.
The United States has thus completely pulled out of the DPRK-US agreement, causing huge economic losses to the DPRK, a spokesman for the DPRK's Foreign Ministry said.
The spokesman said "the Bush administration has suspended the construction of the reactors for the nearly two years since it took the measure to stop the provision of heavy fuel oil in a bid to scrap the agreement."
"The final stopping of the construction of LWRs was, therefore, just a matter of time," he added.
All the facts prove that the DPRK was quite just when it demanded the United States abide by related principles, the spokesman added. Enditem |
