KATHMANDU, Nov. 28 (Xinhuanet) -- The Nepali government took a legal action
to a Frequency Modulation (FM) radio station here on Sunday, state run Radio
Nepal reported Monday.
"The legal action has been taken to Radio Sagarmatha, acommunity FM radio station, as it has been found that topics prohibited or banned has been broadcast," the radio
quoted a press statement released by Nepali Information and Communication
Ministry as saying.
The government officials said the radio station when it was about to
air the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) Nepali service program on an
interview with the Nepali anti-government guerrillas' Leader Prachanda.
"It has been necessary to immediately stop such broadcast asper the
provision of the National Broadcasting Act of Nepal," the statement said.
If such act of broadcasting was not immediately stopped, it would be
difficult to maintain the law and order due to the spread of fear and terror in
the public psyche, the statement added.The FM radio station was run by Nepal
Federation of EnvironmentJournalists, a non-government organization of Nepal.
