BAGHDAD, Nov. 26 (Xinhuanet) -- More than 200 members of the Sunni's Batta tribe demonstrated in northwestern Baghdad on Friday to demand the resignation of the Iraqi defense minister, local media reported.
Relatives of Khadim Sarhid al-Hemaiyem, who was the leader of the tribe and was assassinated in his house with three of his sons and his son-in-law on Wednesday, gathered in a mosque holding banners and slogans, demanding the resignation of the defense minister and an investigation into the slaying.
Al-Hemaiyem and his sons were shot dead by gunmen wearing Iraqi army uniforms on Wednesday.
Following the incident, the Interior Ministry denied government forces were involved in the attack. A little-known Partisans of the Sunni claimed responsibility for the killing of al-Hemaiyem and for several other attacks.
More than 250 people have been killed since Nov. 18 in car bombings and suicide attacks against Shiite targets. Enditem |
