LONDON, Nov. 25 (Xinhuanet) -- Soccer legend
George Best, named by Pele as the best footballer, died on Friday afternoon
after spending much time of all his 59 years combating with alcohol problem.

and very valiant fight, Mr George Best died this afternoon in the intensive care
unit at Cromwell Hospital," a spokesman for the hospital said.
"The thoughts of all staff at Cromwell Hospital are
with Mr Best's family at this time."
Best died at 1255 GMT, the spokesman said.
The former Manchester United winger, who had been in
hospital since the beginning of October, underwent a liver transplant in 2002
after years of heavy drinking.
He was admitted to hospital after suffering a
reaction to the treatment he was receiving for his new liver and then developed
an infection and internal bleeding.
Best played 37 times for Northern Ireland, who were
never able to qualify for the World Cup during his international career which
spanned 13 years from 1964 to 1977. Enditem |
