PHNOM PENH, Nov. 23 (Xinhuanet) -- Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen on
Wednesday was nominated as a candidate for the 4th term of the royal government
by his ruling Cambodian People's Party (CPP).
The resolution adopted by the CPP's Extraordinary Congress announced that "The
Congress unilaterally decided to select Samdech Hun Sen, deputy president of
the Cambodian People's Party, as a candidate for the post of Prime Minister of
the Cambodian royal government for the 4th term of the National Assembly."
Hun Sen has been government Prime Minister for three successive terms since
1993. The next elections of the National Assembly is scheduled to be held in
2008.
The CPP concluded its two days and half Extraordinary Congress on Wednesday
afternoon with the enlarged central committee.
"In order to enhance leading capacity of the party in the new environment,"
121 new members have been nominated for membership in the Central Committee,
according to the resolution of the congress.
The CPP's Central Committee now has a total of 268 people from former 153.
More than 800 party officials from across the country attended the
congress. No representatives from other parties were invited to the event.
Besides debating the issue of the new candidates, the congress also
reviewed the Party's outcome of the implementation of the Party's platform for
2003 to 2005 and the goals for 2006.
Moreover, the cooperation with its coalition partner
Prince Norodom Ranariddh's FUNCINPEC has been debated a lot at the congress.
