¡¡BEIJING, Nov. 21 (Xinhuanet)-- Zou Shiming powered his way into the history books after capturing the light-flyweight title at the 13th World Senior Amateur Boxing Championships on Sunday in Mianyang City in the southwestern province of Sichuan.

    Zou thrashed Hungary's Pal Bedak 31-13 to win the first gold medal of the world championships in Chinese boxing history.

    Zou already held the best record for Chinese boxers, having won silver in the last tournament and bronze at the Athens Olympics.

    Opening the bout with a 9-0 run throughout the second round, Zou led all the way, extending his lead every round.

    Zou used his left jabs to keep space to the small Bedak, who upset defending champion Sergey Kazakov of Russia in the quarter-final.

    Earlier yesterday, Odlanier Solis heaved Cuba to the top of amateur boxing with a cliffhanger victory over defending champion Russia.

    Trailing in the count in the first two rounds, the reigning world and Olympic heavyweight champion, now fighting as a super heavyweight, rallied mightily in the third to turn the tables on Russian Roman Romanchuk in the last match of the tournament.

    In the end the 25-year-old emerged seven points ahead to notch the deciding fourth gold medal for Cuba.

    Kubrat Pulev of Bulgaria and Roberto Cammarelle of Italy took home the bronze in the +91kg weight class.

    The championships ran from November 13 to 20 and attracted over 400 boxers from across the world.
