US 1st lady appreciates Beijing's great change

    BEIJING, Nov. 20 (Xinhuanet) -- "So much fun! interesting!" US First Lady Laura Bush repeated her appreciation for

Beijing's great change over years when she toured a city planning exhibition hall here Sunday.

    Laura, who accompanied US President George W. Bush on a state visit to China, visitd Beijing Planning Exhibition Hall and the Ming Tombs on Sunday.

    The exhibition hall displays the great achievements of the modern urban development with more than 30 models or objects, over1, 200 pictures and 20 movies. It also exhibits the future layout of Beijing's urban development.

    Laura showed great interest in a model of Beijing's city masterplan which covers an area of 302 square meters and has a scale of 1:750. She also asked the guide to point out those places she knew on the model, including the Great Hall of the People, the Forbidden City, etc.

    She also visited the projects of Olympic Games. When visiting the models of the "Bird's nest" gymnasium and the swimming pool, named "Cubic water", Laura asked questions concerning the city's preparation toward the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

    After tasting traditional Chinese dumplings, Laura headed for the Ming tombs in outskirt Beijing's Changping district.

    The Ming Tombs, mausoleums of 13 emperors of China's Ming Dynasty, is a UNESCO-listed World Cultural Heritage site.

    Laura repeated her admiration of China's profound history and splendid culture when touring the Ming Tombs. Enditem
