BEIJING, Nov. 20 (Xinhuanet) -- Kong Quan, director-general of the Information Department of Chinese Foreign Ministry, said here Sunday that US President George W. Bush's current visit to China has achieved important results.

Chinese President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao held talks or met with Bush who arrived here Saturday evening on a three-day visit.

Kong said Bush's visit to China is an important one conducted in a friendly atmosphere, and it is pragmatic and constructive.

Leaders of the two countries exchanged views on all issues of common concern and reached consensus on many issues, said Kong.

During their talks, President Bush invited Hu to visit the United States at an earlier possible date , and Hu accepted the invitation with pleasure.

Kong said it is very important to maintain constant high-level dialogues between China and the United States, hoping that dialogues between leaders of the two countries and contacts and consultations at various levels help expand the common interests and promote the mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields so as to realize common development and contribute to world peace and stability.

Kong said this is the fifth meeting between the two presidents this year, and the two leaders spoke highly of the development of bilateral relations, reiterating that they will make concerted efforts to push for new results in bilateral constructive and cooperative relations.

It will not only benefit the peoples of the two countries but is also significant for regional and world peace and stability, said Kong.

Bush expressed his appreciation for China's unswerving commitment on pursuing a peaceful development road, Kong said.

China and the United States have many common interests and the two countries should take account of the general situation of bilateral ties and properly address their problems and frictions so as to ensure the steady and sound development of bilateral ties, Kong said.

On human rights, Kong said, it is quite normal for the two countries to have differences in this regard as the two countries have different historical and cultural backgrounds and conditions.

"What is more important is that the two sides can increase mutual understanding and seek common ground through dialogues," Kong added.

On Sino-US trade, Kong said, leaders of the two countries had an in-depth discussion, and they expressed willingness to join hands in gradually realizing a trade balance in the course of development, and properly handle trade issues through consultations.

On the bird flu issue, Kong said, Hu and Bush reached consensuson prevention and control cooperation and worked out a common document, which is a concrete step in bilateral cooperation in this regard covering rich contents including the research and development of vaccine and medicine, Kong added.

Kong said he believes that Bush's current visit is certain to push forward the Sino-US constructive and cooperative relations, and make new achievements in bilateral cooperation in various fields. Enditem
