Iraq rejects allegation on Iran's interference
www.chinaview.cn 2005-11-20 04:17:33

TEHRAN, Nov. 19 (Xinhuanet) -- A visiting Iraqi security official dismissed on Saturday allegations that Iran had interfered in Iraq's internal affairs and sponsored terrorism in the war-torn country, the semi-official Mehr news agency reported.

"We have no evidence proving Iran has interfered in Iraq'sinternal affairs or participated in terrorist operations against Iraq," Iraqi national security advisor Mouwafak al-Rabii wasquoted as saying.

Rabii further said Baghdad believed that "the security of Iranis tied to the security of Iraq, particularly since both countries have prioritized fighting against the al-Qaida terrorist network."

The United States and Britain have accused Iran of meddling inIraq's internal affairs and being involved in some bomb attacks in the country. The allegation was echoed by some senior Iraqi officials, including former defense minister Hazem al-Shaalan.

Tehran, however, slammed the charges as "fabricated to cover up the failure of Washington and London in Iraq."

Rubai arrived in the Iranian capital Tehran late on Wednesday for a three-day official visit. The two countries have signed a security cooperation agreement on Friday.  Enditem
