BAKU, Nov. 19 (Xinhuanet) -- Opposition supporters gathered in a square in Azerbaijan's capital Baku Saturday, protesting the results of the November 6 vote, witness said.
The rally was organized by the opposition in an attempt to press for the resignation of President Ilham Aliyev's Yeni, whose (New) Azerbaijan party won most of the seats in the 125-member parliament two weeks ago.
Hundreds of riot police were deployed and two water cannon trucks also arrived on the scene.
Authorities said the vote was flawed only in five constituencies and refused to declare void of the results.
Interior Minister Ramil Usubov warned on Friday that attempts at destabilization would be prevented. Enditem |
