Hundreds jailed since urban violence starts in France

    PARIS, Nov. 18 (Xinhuanet) -- The French Justice Ministry announced Friday that a total of 411 people have been jailed for involvement in the latest urban violence.

    According to the ministry, 655 people have been detained, including 540 adults and 115 young people under 18, among them 244are in detention pending appearances before judges besides the 411sentenced to prison.

    According to official figures, nearly one in five of the peoplejailed or detained are minors.

    According to French national police service, more than 9,000 vehicles were torched and nearly 3,000 people arrested during thisurban violence, which sparked on Oct. 27 in Clichy-sous-bois, northeast Paris suburb, where two teenagers were accidentally electrocuted as they tried to flee police identity check.

    Police declared Thursday that the situation was now back "to a normal situation everywhere in France". Enditem กก
