Vienna police strengthen security around mosques
www.chinaview.cn 2005-11-18 20:41:36

VIENNA, Nov. 18 (Xinhuanet) -- Austrian police on Friday enhanced security around the mosques in Vienna one day after a bomb went off at a building housing a Muslim prayer center, an official said.

Security is routinely heightened "in sensitive times," said Gert Zander, an official in the police anti-terrorism department.

Extra officers will patrol areas around Vienna's 60 mosques on Friday, he said.

A homemade bomb went off early Thursday, blowing out windows and heavily damaging the first floor of the building, which housed a Muslim prayer center. No one was injured in the blast.

It remained unclear what the explosion was targeted at and what explosives were used, Zander said. Enditem
