SHANGHAI, Nov. 17 (Xinhuanet) -- Governor of the US state of California Arnold Schwarzenegger said here Thursday he has reached broad consensus with representatives of China's economic and cultural sectors during his China visit.

He said he is willing to come back to Shanghai for the Special Olympics in 2007.

In his talks with Shanghai Mayor Han Zheng, Schwarzenegger said California and Shanghai have great potential in cooperation in the fields of economics, culture, energy and others. He called for joint efforts from both sides to promote cooperation.

Han said California has maintained close contact with Shanghai as well as China in various sectors. The visit of the business delegation led by Schwarzenegger will be conducive to the further development of the existing economic and trade ties, he added.

California, whose gross product accounts for 13 percent of US gross domestic product, has the most robust economy of all American states.

In 2004, California exported 6.8 billion US dollars of goods toChina, including electronic equipment, industrial machinery, computers and transport tools, according to the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT).

The Austrian-born actor-turned-politician is also an advocate of the Special Olympics movement, which provides mentally-challenged people with an opportunity to participate in social life through sports training and competitions.

He expressed his congratulations to Shanghai for holding the 12th Special Olympics World Summer Games in 2007.

"I visited Shanghai five years ago as a volunteer for the promotion of the Special Olympics," said Schwarzenegger, adding that one of the major purposes of his current visit is still to advocate the Special Olympics.

He accepted Han's invitation with pleasure for presenting the Special Olympics in Shanghai in 2007.

Schwarzenegger and his delegation are here at the invitation of the CCPIT. Besides Shanghai, they also visited Beijing, and will visit Hong Kong. Enditem
