KABUL, Nov. 16 (Xinhuanet) -- A suicide car bomber attacked a US military convoy in the main street of the main southern Afghan city of Kandahar on Wednesday, killing a civilian as well as the driver himself and wounding two others.
Witnesses said dozens of Afghan and US soldiers cordoned off the area immediately after the blast as smoke was pouring into the sky from the area.
Kandahar Governor Assadullah Khalid said there was no immediate casualty report among the US troops in the convoy which was passing through a road in the heart of the city when it was attacked.
The bomber rammed his car into a four-wheel-drive Toyota Landcruiser before detonating the explosives. It was not clear whether US-led coalition troops or Afghan soldiers were inside thetargeted vehicle, he said.
US military spokesman Lt. Col. Jerry O'Hara said initial reports indicated that the explosion was in the vicinity of a coalition convoy but there were no reports of injuries or damage.
The blast came two days after militants used twin suicide car bombs to attack NATO peacekeepers here in this capital city. Enditem |
