BEIJING, Nov. 15 -- Foreigners will require certificates to work in 87 professions for which the Chinese government sets qualifications, Shanghai Morning Post said today.
The report said local authorities are still working on detailed measures to implement the new regulation, issued by the Ministry of Labour and Social Security.
The ministry "hopes" authorities in charge of issuing certificates will allow foreigners to sit in job qualification exams in the Chinese language, the report said.
Professions such as pharmacist, physician, lawyer or accountant require certificates in China.
The report also said foreigners in industries deeply rooted in overseas culture, such as chef de partie-western or pastry chef, can work in China by having their foreign-issued certificates notarized in their home countries in English or Chinese.
