WASHINGTON, Nov. 14 (Xinhuanet) -- The United States said on Monday that the Syrians should cooperate with UN investigators on the murder case of former Lebanese prime minister Rafik Hariri.

    "The secretary has spoken to this and has made quite clear thatwhat Mehlis wants, Mehlis should get, and Syria's in no position to impose conditions or obstacles," State Department deputy spokesman Adam Ereli said at a briefing, referring to the ongoing investigation led by chief UN investigator Detlev Mehlis.

    "The UN Security Council's resolutions on this score are quite clear and unambiguous; that they need to provide full cooperation and provide to Mehlis, without conditions, those individuals who he wants to talk to, at a place and a time of Mehlis' choosing," Ereli said.

    Ereli urged Syria to adhere to those resolutions or be reportedto the UN Security Council for possible sanctions.

    Ereli's comments came Syria and the United Nations remained at loggerheads over where the UN investigation team will be able to question six Syrian officials linked to the Hariri killing.

    It is reported that Syria wants the UN team to question the Syrian officials linked to the Hariri case in a third territory. However, Mehlis insists on questioning them in Lebanon. Enditem
