BAGHDAD, Nov. 14 (Xinhuanet) -- A car bomb exploded on Monday near a police patrol outside a main gate to the fortified "Green Zone" in central Baghdad, killing at least one police officer, police said.

The blast occurred between the "Green Zone," where the heaquarters of the Iraqi government and the US forces are located, and the Iranian embassy, witnesses said.

Though at least one blast, targeting Iraqi security forces or US troops, occurs in Baghdad on most days, direct attacks on the "Green Zone" are not common.

Initial reports indicated that the blast was a suicide one, but police was still investigating. Enditem
