Bulgaria, US to launch new round of talks on military bases

    SOFIA, Nov. 12 (Xinhuanet) -- A new round of military negotiations between Bulgaria and the United States regarding two military bases in Bulgaria is to be held next Wednesday, local paper reported on Saturday.

    In a statement released on Friday, Bulgarian deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ivailo Kalfin said that Bulgaria andthe US are interested in the joint utilization of two bases in Central Bulgaria -- a shooting range in Novo Selo, Sliven and an airport in Bezmer, Yambol, local newspaper "Duma" reported.

    Kalfin revealed that in the coming talks the two sides would mainly discuss the juridical status of the two bases, environment protection, customs control and regional development. He stressed that there is no pressure for a quicker result of the talks from either side.

    The US and NATO have been eyeing Bulgarian military bases for troops deployment possibilities. Bulgaria and the US have carriedout talks about military bases since this May. Enditem
